Mark Rossi

CEO, Chairman of the Board

Mark has over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur and operations leader in the utility industry and has advised clients in all sectors, including investor-owned utilities, public power entities, independent power producers, and independent system operators throughout the United States and abroad. Throughout his career, he has held senior executive positions leading and building consulting organizations, particularly in the energy and utility sector. Most recently, he was Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at NERC where he oversaw the operations of the nation’s standards setting and compliance organization. Prior to NERC, Mark was a partner in Accenture’s Utilities organization. Prior to Accenture, he was Executive Vice President at Gestalt, LLC (acquired by Accenture) and co-founder and CEO of BDR, Inc, a global management consulting firm.


David Ippolito

Co-Founder, CTO, Product Development, Board Director

Dave has over 22 years experience architecting commercial software solutions, including 15 years in the power industry. Prior to Versify, he led a successful information technology consulting company, the Nexus Group Consulting, where he led development of large enterprise software systems for Fortune 500 companies. Throughout Dave’s history of applying IT to solve complex business and technical issues, his roles have included mapping software products to market needs, application development and management, Agile and SDLC development methodologies, building effective teams to deliver. Dave earned his BS in Industrial Engineering with an emphasis on Information Systems from Lehigh University.


Elise Wolf

Director, Client Services

Elise has over 20 years of diverse technical and leadership experience in creating, shaping & leading technology teams in developing and delivering software solutions. Prior to Versify, Elise served as a Global Consulting Program Product Manager for Deloitte, which provides audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management, and tax services to selected clients. Elise has a MBA from Widener University and is also very well acquainted with industry best practices and standards. Elise possesses numerous certifications such as PMP, ITIL v3 certification and is a Certified Scrum Product Owner.


John Finley

VP, Client Services & IT Operations

John has over 20 years of experience supporting customers of information technology, with a successful track record in building, transforming, and leading high-performance IT organizations. Prior to Versify, he was Director of IT at NRG Energy, a fortune 300 wholesale power generation company, where he helped launch their new IT department from the ground up and oversaw the IT integration and support of over 125 systems. Prior to NRG, John was an Application Development Manager for PNC Advisors. He has specific experience with architecting, developing, and supporting high-volume transactional systems, and has led numerous large-scale technology initiatives across the U.S. John earned his BS in Information Systems from Drexel University.


Lynn Simpers

Director, Human Capital

Lynn has 12 years of accounting, administrative and human resources experience in the information technology industry. Joining Versify in 2011, Lynn is responsible for organizing, developing, directing and implementing all human resources functions and performance. Lynn’s ability to develop trusting relationships with the organization’s leaders and staff makes her a valuable strategic partner within Versify. A native of Delaware, Lynn currently resides in Elkton, MD with her family. She is a current member of SHRM, Society for Human Resource Management, and will earn her Bachelors of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University in May 2017.


Bob Furry

VP, Product Strategy

Bob Furry serves as Vice President of Product Strategy. Mr. Furry has 20 years experience as a consultant and software Product Manager in the power industry. Prior to joining Versify, he held leadership positions with ABB Enterprise Software (previously Ventyx) as an Industry Solution Executive and General Manager with the Energy Portfolio Management product line. Mr. Furry has successful track record of designing and deploying complex software applications for market operators, utilities and power producers. Mr. Furry started his career in the industry as a consultant to the California ISO and the Ontario IESO. He also held key positions with the Structure Group’s nMarket software development team and played a key role in the rapid growth of nMarket. Mr. Furry holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Science in Industrial Administration (MSIA) from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Pennsylvania.

Cody Nystrom

Managing Director, SJF Ventures

Cody Nystrom is a Managing Director at SJF Ventures. She joined SJF in the Durham, North Carolina office in 2007. Cody represents SJF on the boards of Validic (mobile health data platform), Fit4D (medical adherence solutions for chronic conditions), Versify Solutions (business analytics for utilities and power producers), Community Energy, Inc. (utility-scale solar developer and renewable energy credit marketer) and Vital Farms (national provider of pasture-raised eggs and poultry products). She previously led the investment in CleanScapes (waste and recycling services provider) before its successful exit in 2011 to Recology. Additionally, Cody serves on advising committees for Lighthouse Labs, Commonwealth Energy Fund, Virginia Solar Development Authority and the Venture Forward mentoring group at University of Virginia. Cody was previously at Ewing Bemiss & Co., an investment bank based in Richmond, Virginia that provides M&A and other financial advisory services to middle-market companies, primarily in the energy and healthcare services sectors. Cody graduated summa cum laude from the University of Virginia with a BS in Systems and Information Engineering and a minor in Business.


William Downey

Retired President and COO, Great Plains Energy, Inc.

Mr. Downey’s has worked in utilities for nearly 40 years. Over the course of his career, he has managed a broad range of utility functions, including field operations, customer service, construction, engineering, human resources, public affairs and marketing and business strategy. Starting in 2000 Mr. Downey served in key executive positions for Kansas City’s largest utility, retiring in 2011 as Executive Vice Chairman. From 2012 to 2014 Mr. Downey served as an Advisor to Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Sly James on the operations and performance of the Kansas City Water Services Department. Mr. Downey earned his B.S. Degree from Boston University, an M.S. Degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and an MBA from The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.


David Turner

COO, Tangent Energy Solutions

Mr. Turner is an energy markets and infrastructure expert with more than 25 years of energy industry leadership experience. Before Tangent he worked as the SVP at Gestalt Energy & Utilities, where he created and grew the Energy and Utility practice to 40+ employees and $12 million in profitable revenue in just under four years. Accenture acquired Gestalt in 2007, and Mr. Turner became Senior Executive (Partner) and provided AMI, Smart Grid and Technology consulting services to Utility and ISO/RTO clients. Prior to Gestalt, Mr. Turner was Executive Vice President at InfraSource, a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation; and President and COO of InfraSource’s Managed Services Group. He has also held management positions with PECO Energy, now an Exelon Company and a Fortune 100 electric utility; and for the PJM Interconnection, which coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia. Mr. Turner earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette College and his MBA from Villanova University.


Dr. Thomas Ells

Retired Executive, Johnson & Johnson

Dr. Ells was formerly with Johnson & Johnson where he was Vice President of R&D for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company and a member of the Johnson & Johnson Innovation Center in Boston. Previously, he was VP, R&D for McNeil Nutritionals and a member of the Company’s Global Management Board from 2005 until 2012. From 2000 to 2005 he was Vice President of Business Development for McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceuticals where he was responsible for licensing and acquisitions in the specialty pharmaceutical area. Other roles at J&J include Research Scientist for McNeil Consumer Products Company and Johnson & Johnson*Merck developing over-the-counter pharmaceuticals and VP Business Development and member of the Management Board for Biosense Webster, a medical device company focused on electrophysiology. Tom received a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.S. degree in chemical engineering from Lehigh University, a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering from West Virginia University, and an M.B.A. degree from Columbia University. He is co-holder of several patents for over-the-counter pharmaceutical technologies and has served as a member of the Leadership Council of the American Diabetes Association of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.


Dirk Sampselle

COO, Potomac Asset Management

Mr. Sampselle presently serves as General Counsel and COO for the Potomac family of enterprises, including an SEC-registered Investment Advisor, FINRA-registered Broker-Dealer, 2 clean technology venture funds, multiple ERISA pension fund QPAM accounts, a financial advisory consulting firm, and a variety of subsidiary investment vehicles. He is a California attorney and an internationally-recognized authority on impact investment legal structures and business models. As a Drafting Author of B Lab’s Benefit Corporation legislative memorandum, he helped advocate for the benefit corporation legal entity now passed in over 30 American jurisdictions. His thought leadership and entrepreneurial endeavors have been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine, CSRwire, Forbes, and Emory Law Journal, among many other outlets, and he is a sought-after speaker at the nation’s leading sustainable business conferences. In 2010, he was awarded the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law’s Monroe Gumer Fellowship for his work. Dirk earned his JD and MBA as a Dean’s Scholar at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, where he studied corporate governance under Myron Steele, the then-presiding Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court.


Michele Zujkowski

Growth Company Mentor

Michele A. Zujkowski is a venture consultant specializing in emerging growth firms. In private practice for 24 years, she provides strategic consulting expertise and has authored over 150 business plans and executive summaries for capital acquisition and operational purposes. She has extensive due diligence experience for two venture funds and multiple individual investors and is a portfolio manager for 12 venture-backed companies, monitoring the investment and advising in areas such as fund raising, strategy, board constitution and financial matters. Previously, Ms. Zujkowski spent ten years at a commercial bank in a lending capacity. She developed and taught multiple courses bank-wide on financial statement analysis and creative loan structures and organized and managed the Private Banking Department at Meridian Bank in Philadelphia. Ms. Zujkowski represents Ben Franklin Technology Partners of SE-PA interests on the Versify Board. Other Board positions include numerous emerging growth technology and life sciences companies. She is a multi-year judge for Wharton’s SBDC Business Plan and Temple’s “Be Your Own Boss” Competitions, a judge and organizational committee member for the Angel Venture Fair, and Board and Executive Committee membership at Penn State’s High Tech and Biotech Incubator in Malvern, PA. Zujkowski holds a BA from Rutgers College in Business Administration and an MBA from Villanova.
